Di Gilpin Di Gilpin

DI GILPIN

Born in Yorkshire, Di moved early to Scotland where she established herself on the Isle of Skye. From its very inception, Di's work showed a unique, individual flair and a strong relationship to landscape. Her long standing love of Andalucía and its Moorish culture have also contributed a profound influence on her work over the years, as have the Atlantic coasts of Scotland and Ireland.

Boasting a portfolio of collaborations with several international designers; Di has created three collections of hand knit for Paul Hardy as well as designing and creating the extraordinary hand knitted pieces which took the fashion world by storm as they hit the Meadham-Kirchhoff catwalk during London Fashion Week in February 2011.

Di's work has been recognized by several awards over the years; of particular note was her accolade as the first ever Balvenie Artisan of the Year in 2005 and her shortlisting for the Scottish Arts Council's Creative Scotland Award.

Di’s work is innovative and daring in design, technique and execution. She strives to create sustainable clothing and commissions her own organic yarns and fibres, all sourced in the United Kingdom, creating garments with both a unique look and feel.

Marc Ross Marc Ross

MARC ROSS

Born in Ayrshire, Scotland, Marc began his career, assisting as an apprentice in embroidery and screen printing . Here Marc cut his teeth as a pattern maker, nurturing the immense talent which is evident within each of the garments he designs.

On graduating in Fashion Design and Garment Technology, Marc went on to intern with Vivienne Westwood in London, spending a year working with the Gold Label creative pattern cutting team. He then moved back to Manchester where he worked with a company manufacturing for high-end labels such as Jaeger, Burberry, Anya Hindmarch and Barbour.

Returning to Scotland in early 2010, Marc channeled his vision towards designing his own womenswear collections, launching his own, eponymous label.

Edgy, underground and wonderfully structured, with a hint of couture, Marc is known for his dramatic, gorgeously constructed pieces. Combining elements of British tailoring and couture, he creates a distinct aesthetic which focuses on innovation through pattern making and garment manipulation, in order to push the boundaries within design.

About

Design Collective Scotland (DCS) acts as a platform for Scottish fashion designers, enabling them to live and work in Scotland.

The driving force behind DCS is Emily Lamb, Di GIlpin and Marc Ross. We are always on the look out for undiscovered creative talent.

The DCS shop and studio is situated on Glasgow's Dumbarton Road, where we sell a number of Scottish designer's work and offer a bespoke service on some labels. The studio is available to any designers, who are stocked within the shop.

Showing internationally is hugely important to DCS. It enables a host of different brands from the shop to exhibit worldwide, through fashion weeks all over the world. Something that would be impossible for a new designer, without the backing of the collective and the collective's sponsors. This not only increases awareness of each designer but also increases awareness of the talent that stems from Scotland.

Finally and perhaps most importantly, the DCS training academy launches this year too. We will teach specialist crafts such as knit, knit pattern, beginner and advanced pattern cutting, beginning and advanced dress making and shoe design and making. Our aim is to be able to offer courses that are not yet available in Scotland or not available as evening classes.
